Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful summer and are refreshed heading into the cooler temperatures of the fall season. This summer once again will be amongst the hottest on record with accompanying wildfires and destructive storms becoming the new normal.
While we at the BEA are very concerned about the negative consequences of a changing climate, we remain steadfast in our focus on local environmental sustainability and the positive things that we can do to both to adapt to the new reality and do everything that we can to reduce the risk of things becoming worse.
BEA members have been busy this summer.
- Provided input to the Ontario Provincial Government on the Emerald Energy from Waste Expansion Proposal,
- Delivered a workshop to the Professional Engineers of Ontario Brampton Chapter
- Participated in Peel Climate Change Master Plan Refresh virtual meeting
- The BEA has been selected as a community-based learning partner for Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine’s Community Advocacy Project
- Established a partnership with the Brampton Library to host and promote Repair Cafe events in Brampton
- Established a partnership with ClimateFast to track Brampton City Council voting records on local environmental issues. More to come soon!
- Submitted grant proposals for the development and delivery of a Climate Readiness and Resiliency workshop program. More to come soon!
- Participated in Cycle Toronto’s celebration event as the court struck down the Provincial Government’s bike lane ban as part of Bill 212
- Delivered bicycle safety training events as part of the Bramalea SNAP project
- Volunteered at several community and social rides that encourage more cycling activity
- Volunteered at Different Spokes community bike hub
