CivicTechBrampton
Civic Tech Brampton is a community-driven group that brings together residents, technologists, students, and policymakers to solve local civic challenges using technology, data, and design. Part of the broader Canadian civic tech movement, they host meetups for networking, project pitching, and collaboration on solutions to enhance local government services and community life.
Core Activities & Structure
The group operates as a “community of practice” where people from various backgrounds—not just coders—can contribute.
- Hacknights: Regular gatherings where participants listen to presentations from guest speakers (such as city officials) and then split into breakout groups to work on specific civic projects.
- Collaboration: Members work on building free resources and tools that can be shared with other civic tech communities.
- Diverse Membership: Participants include designers, urban planners, government staff, activists, and curious newcomers.
How to Get Involved
- Attend a Meetup: Join the Civic Tech Brampton Meetup group to find upcoming event dates and locations.
- Inquire Directly: For specific questions or to propose a project, you can email the organizers at civictechbrampton@pm.me.
- Participate in Related Hubs: The Brampton Innovation District also supports similar tech-for-good initiatives and startups in the downtown core.
