The BEA has been involved in many events over the past two months. Those earlier in April were already documented in a previous post. Here are ones that happened more recently.
Earth Day Presentation, Heart Lake Secondary School
David and Dayle were invited by BEA youth member Ishpreet and Teacher Stephan Murray to deliver an Earth Day presentation to 5 classes at Heart Lake Secondary School on April 23rd. David talked about the environmental challenges facing the City of Brampton, particularly related to climate change and what young people can do to make a positive difference.

Caledon Bolton Repair Cafe
On April 26th, the BEA attended a repair cafe event in Bolton to help with bike repairs. The event was a great success with many people attending the event to have items repaired and to learn more about environmental issues.
Rose Symphony Orchestra
That same evening David and Dayle staffed a BEA/BikeBrampton table at the Rose Theatre Spring Symphony event. Good conversations were had with many of symphony patrons. And David and Dayle were able to take in several lessor known pieces composed by Mozart.

Start with a Smile
On May 14th, David staffed a table at Ridgeview PS for a “Start with a Smile” Kindergarten registration event where he spoke with young folks and their parents about the importance of walking and riding to school for their physical and mental health as well as the environment.
Turtlefest
On May 18th, BEA members attended Turtlefest in Heart Lake Conservation Area.

It was a great event for kids and adults to learn more about turtles, snakes, and other reptiles and amphibians living in Brampton. Many species of turtles and other animals are endangered due to climate change and habitat loss.

BikeFest
On May 24th, BEA members attended BikeFest at Chinguacousy Park to celebrate the beginning of Bike Month. This is the start of many activities and events taking place during May and June.

Conestoga Public School Bicycle Safety Seminar
On May 26 David and Dayle delivered a bike safety seminar to students at Conestoga Public School.

Kids from Kindergarten to Grade 5 attended the assembly to learn about how to ride safely and comfortably in Brampton.
Mayor Brown Proclaims June as Bike Month
On May 28th, Dayle, David and Steve attended Brampton City Hall, where the Mayor proclaimed June as Bike Month in the City!

The proclamation certificate will be hung at Different Spokes, Brampton’s downtown cooperative bike hub.
Grow Green Festival
Finally on May 31st the BEA supported a table at the Grow Green Festival at Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre.

Despite the cold and wind, the day was well attended and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The restoration work at Loafer’s Lake looked great. Thanks to Karley at the city of Brampton for project leading this important initiative and to the Ontario Government for funding the project.
